Swaying but Staying (Hunting Island Lighthouse)

Did you know that Hunting Island Lighthouse, sustained the most damaging earthquake ever to hit the lowcountry region?!  It devastated coastal South Carolina on August 31, 1886.  At Hunting Island, the tremor, later estimated at 7.3 magintude, lasted almost five minutes.  AMAZINGLY, Hunting Island Lighthouse withstood the shock.  The lighthouse was built to sway.  Flexibility is a huge asset during high winds (and earthquakes).  This ability to sway allows the Lighthouse to stay even in severe weather.

This flexibility applies to real life.  Storms come our way and make us sway but the word of God gives us the power to stay.  He is faithful to do as He has promised.  So tough times may shake us and cause us to tremble but our firm foundation in Him will keep us standing.  Just like the lighthouse, we were built to withstand the storm.  We were designed to overcome.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

Let us give you a tour of Hunting Island and the Lighthouse!  We think you’ll enjoy it’s beauty as much as we do!
