The Wonders Among You

(The Missing 31st Devotion)

In case you weren’t sure, you can be sure now that we are NOT perfect. We are just ordinary people trying to do God’s will. We set out to write a 30 Day Devotional. We submitted thirty devotions to our publishing assistant. We received the final edit and approved everything. Once we received a hard copy of our book to hold in our hand, we immediately realized the mistake. It’s right there on the cover “31 Day Devotional”. We could laugh or we could cry, so we chose to laugh. Then we said, “Okay, Lord. We’ll write one more devotion.” It’s too late to add it to our book but we wanted to leave it here for you.

One More

Luke 5:4-7

In the book of Luke, we find Jesus preaching by the waterside. As he was preaching, he noticed two boats floating in the water and the owners of those boats cleaning their nets. After he finished preaching, he walked onto the boat of Simon and said, “Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.” Now, Simon and the others had been working hard all night long. They caught no fish. Zero. Nada. None. We can only imagine that these men were worn out and so discouraged that their efforts were pointless. Why would they believe they could catch any fish now? After all, they are the professional fishermen, the experts. So Simon answered Jesus. “Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.” Can’t you just hear the fatigue in his voice? The reluctance, even the unbelief? Have you been in situations like that? Tirelessly working hard, trying to find ways to get through the trials of life. Like the fishermen, maybe you are bone tired with no success to show. You have done everything you know to do to take care of the problem. Your tank is empty and you are trying to muster up a teensy bit of faith and hope. Here’s Jesus saying, try again … just one more time.”

You are in just the right place at just the right time. Times like this is when Jesus works miracles. When all our resources have been exhausted and all we have left is him, he can work wonders among us. “And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fish: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.” In a matter of minutes, by acting on obedience and trust, these fishermen went from having caught no fish, to having more than enough to fill both ships. What would have happened if those men, tired and defeated, had refused to cast their nets just one more time? What could happen, if we, being tired and defeated, decide to cast our nets just one more time? Don’t quit too soon! Push past the circumstances and give it just one more!

Sure do love you,

Brian and Amanda

  1. Thank You Brian and Amanda for sharing this 31st Devotional. DEEP, DEEP, DEEP.

Really enjoying your devotional The Wonders Among You. I plan to give it as a gift to others.

“The mistake” was just another opportunity to emphasize the title of your devotional and find the 31st one! I appreciate your honesty and humbleness. I didn’t even notice it and probably wouldn’t have if you hadn’t shared.

    God is truly Awesomely Wonderful.

    Stay blessed and faithful.
